What a lovely Sunday we had yesterday. Since we were already heading down south to Subang Jaya, we schedule a whole day of activities around it.

Bumping into Breeyani, the solo dater

It was especially nice meeting Chetna as she told me her daughter reminded her to meet me at the Potluck the night before as well as in the morning.

I brought rendang and kimchi to the potluck.

VEGAN RENDANG

I think people liked it because it was all gone in less than an hour!

INGREDIENTS

2 tbsp coriander seeds

1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp black peppercorns

4 cloves

1 star anise
5 dried red chillies, deseeded,
100 g shallots
2 garlic cloves
15 g fresh ginger
15 g fresh galangal
3 stalks fresh lemongrass, white part only
150 g water
100 g toasted coconut paste (kerisik)
300 g tempeh
400 g king oyster mushrooms

50 g cooked jackfruit seeds

300 g thick coconut milk
1⁄2 tsp salt
1 bay leaf
5 kaffir lime leaves, bruised

This was quite bland so later I added:

1 tsp turmeric powder

Soy sauce to taste
2 tablespoons coconut sugar

½ turmeric leaf

1 piece asam keping
